This independent publication helps practitioners ask better specification and purchasing questions. It does not replace ASTM standards, engineering judgment, or supplier agreements.

Editorial method
The editorial team prioritizes original explanations, transparent formulas, official source links, and explicit uncertainty. Normative values are intentionally not reproduced from controlled publications.
Content is drafted against the current official edition of the standard and reviewed for defensibility: every claim should be either process reasoning a practitioner can verify, or an explicit pointer to the controlled document.

Nick McDonald serves as technical reviewer for the handbook’s manufacturing, tube-mill process, inspection, tooling, defect-diagnosis and scrap-reduction content. Technical review is intended to check industrial terminology, process logic, safety boundaries and practical applicability. It does not replace the official ASTM standard, customer drawings, purchase requirements, qualified engineering judgment or site-specific safety procedures.
Reviewer affiliation is provided for identification. Tubular Steel USA Inc. is not presented as the publisher or owner of this independent handbook.
Independence
This publication is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by ASTM International, and it does not sell tubing. It is published by Succession MFG, which builds software for manufacturers; that relationship is disclosed on every page footer.
Source hierarchy
Where sources could conflict, this publication treats them in strict order: (1) the current official ASTM edition; (2) producer certifications and documented capability for a specific order; (3) established manufacturing references and practitioner experience for process explanation. Nothing in tier 3 is ever presented as a normative requirement. Each page's “Sources and limitations” section identifies which references informed it.
Corrections policy
If you find an error, use the contact path at successionmfg.com. Confirmed factual errors are corrected in place and the affected page's modified date is updated. We do not silently rewrite substantive technical claims.
Update dates
Every page shows a published and modified date. The modified date changes only when the page's substantive content changes — corrections, expansions, or edition updates — not for styling or navigation changes. When ASTM issues a new edition of A513, affected pages are reviewed against it and their dates updated on completion of that review.
What this guide is not
It is not the standard, not engineering advice for a specific design, and not a substitute for supplier capability discussions. Where this guide and the official standard could ever disagree, the standard governs — and we want to hear about it via the corrections path.
