Tube weld defects: possible causes
Organize weld-zone observations into material, edge presentation, forming, welding, cooling, and verification questions.
Tube-mill investigation must follow site lockout/tagout, guarding, stored-energy, electrical, pinch-point, hot-work, and qualified-person procedures. Never inspect, measure, or adjust moving equipment.
Start at the seam evidence
Record seam position, continuity, upset appearance, heat-affected pattern, test response, and when the symptom begins. Treat these as clues rather than proof of a single setting or component failure.
- Confirm material and strip-edge history
- Review forming and edge presentation before welding
- Review monitoring trends and verified inspection results
- Escalate unsafe or unexplained conditions to qualified personnel
