First-piece approval in tube production
Create a documented release gate after setup, changeover, material transition, or significant process interruption.
Tube-mill investigation must follow site lockout/tagout, guarding, stored-energy, electrical, pinch-point, hot-work, and qualified-person procedures. Never inspect, measure, or adjust moving equipment.
Release evidence
A first-piece record should identify material, order, line, tooling, time, inspection methods, results, approver, deviations, and retained evidence. Approval confirms sampled evidence, not permanent process capability.
- Verify all drawing and PO characteristics
- Record instruments and methods
- Resolve deviations before production release
- Define restart and reapproval triggers
